The mission of the Miami Music Project (MMP) is to make potent music education and live performances accessible to thousands of under-served people each year. The Miami Music Project is not a traditional performing arts organization; its focus is education and community engagement.

Miami Music Project is many things, and rather than defining itself by one activity, it provides flexible, artistic solutions to the changing musical needs of the community. MMP is a partnership between professional classical music performers and public school teachers and administrators. It is an ensemble in residence program in the public schools. It is a presenter of admission-free music performances at the Adrienne Arsht Center. It is an opportunity for thousands of children to witness multiple performances of live classical music. Last but not least, it is a fresh opportunity to learn about the incredible artists and music that shaped the classical music tradition, and an exploration of the ways this tradition is embedded in the music of today. Through these and other activities, the organization aims to engender a powerful sense of community ownership over Miami Music Project and its activities.

Miami Music Project was founded in 2008 by world-renowned conductor James Judd, former music director of the Florida Philharmonic, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestre National de Lille in France.
